Communication report regarding the incidences of drought conditions in Poland

Year: 2011; period: 12 (21.VII - 20.IX)

In the twelfth reporting period, i.e. from 21 July to 20 September 2011, we can find no threat of agricultural drought conditions in Poland.

In the twelfth reporting period for the area of Poland, average climatic water balance (CWB) compared to the previous period decreased by 22 mm. However, the values of CWB in Poland are still much higher than the critical value. In northern and northern western and western parts of Poland, the CWB values are positive, while in the south-west and in the Lublin region and eastern part of Wielkopolska Lake District and the South Wielkopolska Lowland they are negative.
In August, the warmest was in central and southern Poland (18.5-19.5°C). The coldest was in the northern part of the country, from 17.5 to 18.5°C.

The first ten days of September were the warmest in south-west from 15.5°C to 17°C, whereas in the north-east it was cooler by 14°C to 15.5°C.

The second ten days of September was warm. The warmest was in the southern areas of the country 15.5-17.5°C, especially in the south-east, which was even warmer than in the previous ten days. It was colder in the north where temperatures ranged from 14 to 15°C.

In August, the highest rainfall occurred in the north, Koszalin Coastland, Zachodniopomorskie Lakeland, South pomorskie and Mazury from 70 to 110 mm. The lowest rainfall occurred in the south-east and east from 30 to 60 mm.
In the first and second ten day period of September, Poland in terms of precipitation was clearly divided into two parts: the south-east and east of rainfall very small (0-3 mm in the second ten days, and 2-10 mm in the first ten days) and the north-west of higher rainfall, which exceeded 65 mm (in the first ten days), and 60 mm (in the second ten days).

Meteorological conditions occurring in September with a relatively high air temperature and with moderate rainfall should be evaluated as a favourable for field crops.
