Communication report regarding the incidences of drought conditions in Poland
Year: 2009; period: 09 (21.VI - 20.VIII)
The risk assessment of agricultural drought in the ninth reporting period relates to maize for grain and silage, potatoes, sugar beet, hops, tobacco, vegetables, fruit trees and, shrubs, as well as leguminous crops.
In the ninth reporting period, from 21 June to 20 August 2009, agricultural drought was not found on any Polish territory. The values of climatic water balance (CWB), on which the assessment of the drought is calculated are still higher than the critical value for the above crops.
The current value of CWB across the country in relation to the previous period are lower by several to tens of millimetres, but did not exceed the threshold values in any of the Polish communities.
In the last ten days of the sixty-day period (from 11 to 20 August), saw the lowest rainfall occurrence in the Lubuskie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie and Wielkopolskie voivodeship's - thus increasing water scarcity on the border of Lubuskie and Wielkopolskie voivodeship's. However, a water deficit occurring in those areas does not appear as an agricultural drought, because the critical values for these crops are not exceeded.
Large excess of water remains in the northern part of the Pomorskie voivodeship and continues to the south of the country, in the regions of Dolnośląskie, Opolskie, Śląskie and in the southern parts of the Lodzkie, Małopolskie and Podkarpackie voivodeship's.
