The Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation - National Research Institute in accordance with the requirements from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development regarding indicators of climatic water balance for each plant species and soils, has developed the value of climatic water balance for all Polish municipalities (3,064 municipalities). Calculations have been made and based on the soil categories defined in the municipalities for the current risk of agricultural drought for the following crops: winter and spring cereals, oilseed rape and turnip rape, sugar beet, shrubs, fruit trees, and strawberries.
In the first reporting period, i.e. from 1 April to 31 May 2010, drought conditions have not occurred in Poland. The climatic water balance values (CWB), on the basis of which the risk assessment of drought is calculated in most parts of parts of Poland was positive. CWB calculated for the above-mentioned crops were much higher than the critical value. .....
